Technical Support Note
Product(s) involve : Video Blaster
Third party product(s) : IBM PS Value Point series
Subject
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
No display output on the monitor (black screen) after installing Video
Blaster on IBM PS Value Point series of machines.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Description
User will not be able to see any display on the monitor after connecting
the Video Blaster to the VESA feature connector on the IBM PS Value Point.
Disconnecting the feature connector cable from the Video Blaster and the
feature connector on the motherboard will allow user to get display output
on the monitor.
This problem occurs because the layout of the feature connector on the IBM
PS Value Point does not follow the specification define by VESA.
The location of Y-pins and Z-pins are reversed on the IBM PS Value Point.
For example:
Normal VESA connector
Y-pins are located at the bottom row of the feature connector.
Z-pins are located at the top row of the feature connector.
IBM PS Value Point connector
Y-pins are located at the top row of the feature connector.
Z-pins are located at the bottom row of the feature connector.
Revision 2 of the IBM PS Value Point motherboard have corrected this layout
problem and should not have problem with Video Blaster.
Solution/Action
For user who have revision 1 (or earlier) of IBM PS Value Point, the only
solution is to disable the onboard VGA and use an external VGA card that has
feature connector conform to the VESA specification.
